Title
Ginger Jar Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi – Made in Macau (1960s–70s)
Description
Refined Ginger Jar with a classic round shape, a precious testimony of Chinese porcelain from the transitional period of the early years of the People's Republic (Early PRC). This piece stands out for its thick paste porcelain and a surface finish that leans towards matte, technical characteristics typical of the factories in Macau and the mainland during the 1950s and 1960s. The botanical decoration is entirely hand-painted, with polychrome enamels applied with a textured and vibrant stroke that stands out against the non-glossy surface. The bottom features the red seal mark “Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi,” an honorable reference to the Qing tradition, accompanied by the original sticker “CPC – Made in Macau” which confirms its historical dating. The irregularities in the paste and the opacity of the white are distinctive signs of pre-industrial handmade production, making this vase a unique piece for collectors of 20th-century porcelain. Unlike modern mass-produced items, this piece is distinguished by its thick paste porcelain and a matte surface finish, typical characteristics of the kilns in Macau and the mainland during the 1950s. The floral decoration is entirely hand-painted, with polychrome enamels applied with a bold and textured stroke. On the bottom, the red seal mark “Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi” evokes the imperial tradition, while the original sticker “CPC – Made in Macau” certifies its actual historical placement between the 1950s and 1960s. The slight irregularities of the white and the density of the porcelain are not defects, but distinctive elements that guarantee the originality of a piece made before the advent of glossy and standardized industrial processes.
